Our community is growing healthily and steadily on the Discord server, and in the meantime we council members have been busy in the background! We have been working behind the scenes on what comes next. Let us explain what we have done, and what we plan to do in the near future.
You probably already know what we plan to do in the long term: create and nurture a great tabletop community, and then create a tabletop paradise here in Berlin, which in our mind means: renting the perfect space to enjoy our hobby.
Now… that’s a nice vision, but you might wonder how we plan to get there! This is what we want to discuss today. Onto more details!
Here is our roadmap:
- Step 1: Create a good platform for the international tabletop community in Berlin
This is “done”: the Discord server has gathered over 150 members in just a few months! These people enjoy various aspects of the tabletop hobby, which to us is really nice.
On top of the Discord server, there is also a Facebook page, an Instagram account and hashtag (#TTT), and guest posts posts on this very blog. These are all part of our efforts to provide supports for the local community to gather and share our love of tabletop.
We are very proud and happy to see how our group has grown! We enjoy the platform on a daily basis – and hope you enjoy it too! This is at core of why we exist, and we will of course continue our work to support it, and make it the best we can for our community. - Step 2: Create a legal non-profit organization for the community
To be able to do anything “legally”, our community needs a legal entity. In Germany, the standard way to do this is to register a club, by creating a so-called e.V. (“eingetragene Verein”). So, this is what we have been working on over the past few months.
One core aspect of creating such an entity is to come up with by-laws, which in a way are the “constitution” document of our club. In German, this is called Satzung. The Satzung makes explicit the purpose of the organization and how it operates.
We are now done writing ours – including a review with a notary to check for all legal details. We will proceed with the actual registration of this non-profit entity with the local authorities pretty soon! Keep your eye out on Discord and this blog, we’ll keep you posted! - Step 3: Start activities as an official club
Once the club is official created, we will open the possibility to join as a member. Of course, in the very first days, this will be more a symbolic thing. What we offer is more “join and create and shape this thing with us” rather than “sign-up to get access to a well-established club”. We nonetheless plan to have activities as soon as possible!
What activities? Among other things, we plan to organize various types of events: gaming days, tournaments, demo days, workshops, masterclasses, group orders, the sky is the limit! In general, we plan to keep building our community and supporting it to thrive. This on Discord, but also in real life – as soon as the ongoing pandemic lets us get back to it … Yes, it will happen sooner or later, and you can believe that we are on the starting blocks!
We want to create merchandising items for the club in the near future: t-shirts, dice, mugs and tabletop rulers with ITGC Berlin branding. These will let you proudly display your support of the organization, and yes, financially support our efforts toward creating an awesome organization focused on tabletop gaming. - Step 4: Find a physical space and move in
The search will happen in parallel with points 2 and 3: the quest for the venue is a long term effort!
Where, how and when? We have looked around, we have some ideas, and we have been playing around with various scenarios to explore what could be possible, to find ways to make it work in real life. This work is happening within the Council and every member is welcome to get involved as well: just get in touch with us if you want to be part of the early and detailed work of building and refining these scenarios.
Of course, there are limits to what we can financially afford, but what we are looking for is:
– A physical space located in a central, well-accessible by public transport, safe location
– A club focused on (miniature) tabletop gaming and hobbying around it: competitive and narrative gaming, painting, modelling and everything that has tabletop and miniatures as common denominator
– An open place devoted to diversity, both in people and in game systems
– We want to find the right balance to start reasonably and grow sustainably with our community
What exactly this all means in practice is probably what we all members of the Verein will be discussing in the near future, so get ready to join us! In the end, this is all about getting a nice group of people to hang out with and share the great hobby of tabletop gaming with.

Ich finde es gut, dass ihr versucht etwas aufzubauen, aber es schreckt mich sehr ab, dass ihr alles auf Englisch schreibt, in einer Stadt in der weit über die Hälfte der Bevölkerung kein Englisch spricht. Bis Jahrgang 82 haben der Norden und der Osten das nicht einmal in der Schule gehabt. Auch viele aus dem arabischen Raum sprechen die Sprache nicht. Genau so wie die vielen Russen und viele der Polen.
Leider macht es daher einen sehr elitären und ausladenden Eindruck.
Sehr schade gerade weil die deutschen Übersetzungen der regelwerke inzwischen zum Teil englische originale in der Qualität weit überholt haben.

vielen Dank für Deinen Kommentar, der höflich und sachlich einige Punkte anspricht (was heutzutage eine Seltenheit ist).
Daher möchte ich Dir kurz erläutern, warum wir momentan so arbeiten wie wir es tun.
Ausgangspunkt unserer ganzen Bestrebungen war das letzte Jahr. Ich selbst bin Neu-Berliner und bin vor drei Jahren hierher gezogen. Es hatte eine Weile gedauert, aber nach und nach hab ich mir meinen Spielerkreis aufgebaut, viele mit internationaler Herkunft. Während unserer Spiele kamen wir irgendwie auf das Thema, warum es in Berlin so schwer ist, Mitspieler zu finden bzw. passende Räume, die nicht an einen Laden und dessen Öffnungszeiten gebunden sind. Und da berichteten die anderen von ihren Erfahrungen bei der Spielersuche: Alte Websites und Foren mit letzten Beiträgen von vor zwei Jahren, die praktisch tot waren. Anfragen via Mail oder Facebook ohne irgendeine Reaktion. Oder eben auch davon, dass sie sich bei einem der zahlreichen anderen (deutschsprachigen Vereine) gemeldet hätten und dann wegen der Sprachbarriere keinen Anschluss fanden. Hier könnte man ironischerweise festhalten, dass dein Vorwurf des Elitarismus sich auch durchaus umkehren ließe. In diesen Gesprächen entstand dann zunächst die Idee einer zentralen Anlaufstelle für internationale Spieler, aus der sich dann der Plan für eine internationale Vereinsgründung entwickelte.
Da unsere Discord-Mitglieder aus vielen verschiedenen Ländern kommen, wo Deutsch nun einmal nicht zum Lehrplan gehört, bzw unterschiedlich gut oder schlecht Deutsch sprechen, haben wir uns daher auf Englisch als am meisten gesprochene und verstandene Sprache verständigt. Es tut mir Leid, wenn Du Dich davon persönlich ausgeschlossen fühlst aber wir beabsichtigen damit genau das Gegenteil deines Elitarismus-Vorwurfs: Wir möchten so vielen Leuten wie möglich den Zugang zu unserem entstehenden Verein und unserem tollen Hobby ermöglichen.
Auch die gespielten Systeme sollen möglichst divers sein, was uns auch gut gelingt. Du kannst dich gerne davon überzeugen, wenn du dir die ganzen Kanäle und Sub-Kanäle auf dem Discord Server anschaust: Von Fantasy bis Science Fiction über Historisch, Pulp bishin zu Steampunk ist eigentlich alles dabei. Warhammer 40.000, Warhammer Age of Sigmar, Kings of War, Saga, Bolt Action, Team Yankee, Infinity, Conquest, Para Bellum, Malifaux, X-Wing und Gaslands, um nur mal einige Beispiele zu nennen.
Darüber hinaus möchte ich betonen, dass wir die anderen Berliner Vereine nicht als Konkurrenz betrachten, sondern unseren Verein eher als ein ergänzendes Angebot innerhalb der Berliner Tabletop Szene verstehen und wir durchaus auch Kooperationen, z.B. Turniere oder sonstige Events, anstreben. Zudem können unsere Mitspieler durchaus in verschiedenen Vereinen oder Gruppierungen aktiv sein. Das eine schließt das andere nicht aus. Ich hoffe, dass du dich bei einem deutschsprachigen Verein besser aufgehoben fühlst und vielleicht dürfen wir Dich ja als Gast auf einem Turnier oder einer anderen Veranstaltung begrüßen. Gerne kannst du auch einfach als „stiller Mitleser“ auf Discord dabei sein. Unsere Tür dir steht dir immer offen.

Hallo, ich finde die Initiative des Zusammenführens sehr gut. Bloß wozu sollen Hinzugezogene deutsch lernen, wenn sie beim Englisch bleiben können. Genau deshalb, weil alles ohne deutsch lernen geht, findet doch keine richtige Integration statt. Für Besucher ok, aber Leute die hier längerfristig leben wollen? Als alternative Zweitsprache (service für die Neu-Berliner) ok, aber so als Main-Ding? Aber so habt ihr eine Nische gefunden, die sicherlich auch viele Anspricht und genau so viele abschreckt. Ob es damit zum Zusammenbringen der Community führt ist fraglich. Dennoch: Genau das fehlt in Berlin. Eine Übersicht aller Spieler. Eine Plattform die jeder Berliner TTler kennt und schauen würde, wenn er Anschluss sucht. Einige Clubs haben wirklich kaum Außenpräsenz. Gemeinsam auf die Beine wird auch nichts gestellt. Anders als in Hamburg z.b. Interessante Sache.
Hey Michael, ich pflichte dir im Allgemein durchaus bei. Es wäre wirklich schön wenn Berlin eine zugängliche “deutsche” Platform für TT-Spiele aller Art hätte aber das entspricht leider nicht den aktuellen Umständen. Was die Jungs hier versuchen könnte uns als einheimischen Berlinern mMn zu gute kommen. Einerseits ein Forum/Discord das aktiv von Gleichgesinnten genutzt wird und auf der anderen Seite kann man so eventuell mal mit Leuten ins Gespräch kommen welchen man sonst in seinem sozialen Raum nicht antrifft. Die Sprachbarriere von jetzt auf gleich wird wohl keiner einreßen können aber wenn wir es nicht versuchen kann auch nicht gelingen.
