Partner Spotlight: Average40k

Hello Guys, Today we wanted to give a shout out to some of our friends over at Average 40k. They have just started over and are doing a great job promoting another competitive way of playing 40k. They have a blog and are producing a podcast on Youtube. Let’s give them the floor today.

Average 40k is an online platform that wants to talk about the spectacular world of Warhammer 40.000, and in particular about developing a competitive approach to the Tabletop game.

The main goal of the platform is to put forward a “new” way of playing competitive 40k that wants to break with the tradition. The values upheld by this project are those of sportsmanship, kindness and communication. We want to create a competitive community that is safe, sound and open to debate. We don’t want gatekeeping and we do not want people with a WAAC (Win At All Cost) mentality. We believe that there is no shame in defeat, only a lesson. We want to make sure that more people are able to enjoy our hobby and have as much fun as we do in playing the game. We cater to competitive minded people that want to take their first step into this fantastic side of the hobby. We want to create a wide support group in which one feels welcome and in which one can test their skill against like-minded opponents. We want to be the change we want to see in the hobby.

Our focus is less on the crazy combos and more on having the right mindset to face challenging matches (play and to learn how to play). Teaching (others) and learning from each other are pillars of our community. We do not claim to be “pro players” or any of the sort, we claim to have a competitive mindset and to be eager to learn and test our skills. We might not win everything, but we want to make sure to give them hell – while having tons of fun.

The goal of the project is to create a venue for 40k enthusiasts to express themselves and to practice together. We have a podcast in which we talk about all these 40k-related topics more than we talk about the actual game of 40k. We have a few projects that we are working on at the moment. The first one is to create a podcast-series covering an introduction to different warhammer factions from different angles, from their lore to how they feel on the tabletop to how they actually play the game. One of our aims for the near future is working on the translation of written content in German and Italian, in order to broaden our scope even more, while keeping English as our lingua franca. Our biggest challenge at the moment is starting to toy around with the idea of video battle reports (we already have some written ones on our website that you can check out now!) and are learning the skill set required to provide quality content.
